We spend a great deal of time in San Diego, given that it is Michael’s hometown. We suggest the following for guests looking to explore while they are here, or for those extending their trip into a mini-vacation!
The world-renowned San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park zoo.sandiegozoo.org
Balboa Park also has over a dozen museums, botanical gardens, and the iconic California Tower in the Prado Plaza.
Coronado has one of the the most beautiful beaches in the country. Other great beaches in San Diego include Mission Beach and Pacific Beach. There are also lots of shops and restaurants in these areas.
Coronado island is charming to explore, by foot or bike, which you can rent from the Hotel Del Coronado or other bike rental shops on the island.
Comic-Con will be in full effect and literally taking over downtown San Diego July 18-21! Even if you aren’t into comics, there will be some incredible people-watching and elaborate costumes! You don’t have to attend the actual convention to experience all the fun because the “characters” will be out and about all around the city! We have gone in years past and it’s pretty entertaining!
The Gaslamp Quarter and Seaport Village in downtown San Diego are great areas for dining and entertainment. Just keep in mind that they are going to be PACKED with “Comic-Conners” this weekend.
If you have not been to San Diego before the www.oldtowntrolley.com is a great way to see the city and make sure you stop at Balboa Park and Old Town.
LOCAL BARS & RESTAURANTS WE WOULD SUGGEST,
The Brigantine and Miguel's in Coronado both have great Mexican food and walking distance from the hotel.
A fun bar would be the Coronado Brewing Company www.coronadobrewing.com
If you are staying near La Jolla there are many wonderful bars and restaurants at your disposal close to the UTC Shopping Center to include Queenstown Bistro, Shake Shack, True Food Kitchen, Raised by Wolves, Seasons 52 and Laurens Steak house to name a few.
In the Mission Valley area try Hunter Steakhouse or Crust Kitchen. PF Changs and Cheesecake Factory are nearby in the Fashion Valley Mall.
